Veda Class: Silver Jubilee Celebrations - June 2010
Sabha commenced conducting Veda classes formally in April 1985 in a small way. It has developed continuously producing a large number of students who have all attained basic proficiency. These classes made it pssoible for Sabha to conduct a Maha Rudram in 2004 entirely with the talent of its own students. Since then they have been assisting in many such functions in the temples here. Along with Veda classes, sloka classes were also started a few years later for primarily ladies and children.

Year 2010 will be the 25th year of Veda and Sloka classes. Sabha proposes to celebrate the Silver Jubilee year of its Veda & Sloka Classes with a Valedictory function in June 2010. In this context, we request all past and present students of Veda & Sloka Classes conducted by Sabha to register their names. The registration can be done by sending an e-mail to secretary@sdbbs.org specifying your name, membership number and the year(s) of study, Name of Teacher i.e. Purohith, Subjects learnt etc.

Date & Time: June 2010
Venue: To be announced

Sastha Preeti 2010
This year Sastha Preethi was held just outside the Temple and the lively new picture of Lord Aiyyapa atop the 18 steps was seated and well decorated with flowers in the big dais in that 'pandal'. The colourful kolam in front further enhanced the ambience.

Although the date has been shifted to to first Sunday of Janauary from the New Year day per se since last year, the enthusiastic paticipation of members and their families was an ample testimony to the success of a continuing tradition in Sabha. Scores & scores of volunteers worked tirelessly in view and out of view helping out in decorations, Payasam making, Bhajans, Pooja arrangements, prasadam serving, cleaning, counter management, procurement of needed items here and from India and their coordinated assistance ensured a smooth flow of activities in a timely manner.

The Management Committee wishes to thank all the members for their kind participation, generous donations in making Sastha Preethi 2010 yet another successful event. They also wish to thank each and every one of the volunteer who had rendered invaluable services for sastha Preethi.

Sabha also wishes to place on record the kind courtersy of Sri Srinivasa Perumal Temple Management & the staff members for the use of 'pandhal' and the dias for pooja and sincerely thanks them for providing several items for pooja and decorations and also assisting Sabha in evenry conceivable manner to ensure a smooth flow of activities in a timely manner.

Mandala Veda Parayanam 2009
We thank all the Sabha members for their enthusiastic support for hosting the Mandala Veda Parayanam at their homes. As we are aware the Vedas contain mantras which when chanted with proper Swara, are so potent as to bring in immense prosperity, not only to the one chanting, but also to the entire surroundings. Vedas contain all matters that are necessary for the well being of the entire humanity.

We are indeed blessed that this treasure , handed over to us by our ancestors, has been preserved and we have been able to continue this rare tradition continously for more than a decade now.

A BIG THANK YOU TO ALL THE HOSTS.

Hanuman Chalisa Chanting 2009
Hanuman Chalisa Chanting on 1st May 2009 at Sri Krishnan Temple was well attended and piously rendered with good vibrations resonating all over the venue. Beautifully decorated Hanumanji with folded hands and Rama nama in His heart, standing on a silver peetam blessed all those present. All the participants chanted Hanuman Chalisa 21 times with great devotion and it was nice to observe that no one moved off until the end. Added delight was to notice in the gathering so many young kids and teens effortlessly chanting the Chalisa from memory ! Vow !

The brief lectures in the end by Sri Balaji Bhagavathar and Sri Ramanujam extolling the several virtues of Hanumaniji in their own charismatic manner was a fitting conclusion to the event. The MC thanks all the participants, volunteers, temple authorities and both Sri Balaji Bhagavathar and Sri Ramanujam for making this event a reverberating one.

Cricket Carnival 2009
Players gathered from ages ten to fifty,
Supporters to cheer them up were plenty !
Bat persons trying for runs on both sides,
Alas! Bowlers were on top giving many wides !

But then who cared about score board and runs,
When carnival spirit was flowing all over in tons !
So much so Rain God was also enjoying the fun,
Starting his duty only after all the games were done !

Spotted were several young talents in all the teams,
Karthik was no exception in the organising team !
GSSR were winners crossing every formidable dyke ,
In reality, players and spectators became winners alike,
This Sabha's annual BPL aka Brahmin Premier League !
