Kalai Kadambam 2010
Has each flower on its own unique smell
Together they weaved into garland of skill
Flowing in variety like the gentle whoopers
MCs chipping in between with live bloopers

KK exhibited talents in multitude of arts
Undoubtedly they stole away our hearts
Gathered are here we not merely for fun
Charity added, it's an event of two in one
-- Sri G Srinivasan (The Poem rendered on the spot)

Kalai Kadambam 2010 was once again an event filled with entertainment and laughter. The three hour programme presented by the members & their family was a feast to the eyes & ears. It began with an interesting and original invocation item presented by a group of youngsters singing catchy bhajans while another group of young children dressed up as the Gods that were being invoked. The two dances set to popular Hindi songs presented by the "young ladies" and the teenage girls of the sabha was very colourful and attracted a lot of applause from the audience. A song & keyboard presenta-tion by 2 youngsters was refreshing and motivating. "Poetry in Stone" - a depiction of a few key stories of the Nayanmaargals sculpted on 1500 year old stone temples with live singing from an Othuvaar was thought provoking . A couple danced to love songs from the evergreen MGR & Saroja Devi era took the audience back 40 years. Popular movie songs presented by a group of singers made the audience tap their feet and sing along.

As in all Kalai Kadambams, the sabha did its best to contribute to the society. SunLove Home, a voluntary organization support-ing intellectually disabled individuals, was the recipient of the SGD5000/- cheque this year. The HR Director thanked the sabha for its kind support. The final item of the event was a drama which highlighted the need for us to put relationships and orthodox practices in perspective, was received with laughter and applause for its witty dialogues. The young boys who took on the role of MCs contributed to the fun-filled evening. The Sabha President presented Participation Certificates for all the participants to the Individual Program coordinators in appreciation of the efforts put in to make KK'10 a grand success. A humble request was made to the members to provide greater support for sabha activities by increasing attendance to such functions.

Veda Sloka Class: Silver Jubilee Celebrations - 20-Jun-2010

The event had a good attendance with 80 over students of Veda and Sloka classes participating.

After Vyasa Pooja by the purohiths, Sri Srinivasan welcomed the audience. Naming each purohith of the Sabha until date, he offered them the grateful thanks of the Sabha for carrying on the propagation of Veda thus far in Singapore. He also thanked the several members for hosting the classes in their houses which has been instrumental in getting more members in the vicinity to learn vedas/slokas. He also appreciated the sincerity of the students in learning vedas and slokas amidst various commitments and busy life.

Sri Rangan then narrated the origin of the present series of classes that has completed 25 years. He recalled the enthusiastic efforts of Brahma Sri Ganapathy Iyer in getting the first class started which has since then grown like a big banyan tree enabling sabha to conduct Maha Rudarm in 2004 with the assistance of these students. Sri Rangan also mooted the idea of commencing Sanskrit classes in his speech.

As proposed by Sri PS Ramanathan and Sri PS Somasekharan the title Veda Prothsaha Ratna was awarded posthumously to Brahma Sri Ganapathy Iyer commending his efforts.

Swami Omkaranandaji delivered his lecture which was very inspiring and absorbing. He marvelled at the rich heritage and greatness of Vedas. He appreciated Sabha taking a lead effort to keep this heritage alive in Singapore. The students then chanted Sookthams and slokas from Devi Mahatmyam.

Full list of Sabha's Acharyas will be made available soon

Hanuman Chalisa Chanting 2010
Thanks for your overwhelming participation for the chanting. With close to 200 persons chanting in unison, the vibration reverberated and uplifted the spirit of all present. The discipline exhibited by the participants during the chanting was commendable which has now become Sabha's hall mark ! It was also very nice to see several youngsters amongst the chanting crowd affirming how Hanumnaji, like Ganesha, is dearer to every devotee.

Sabha wishes to thank all the participants and volunteers who rose to the occasion spontaneously for a well attended and conducted event.

Cricket Carnival 2010
It was another day of competitive cricket on display at the Cricket Carnival 2010. The champions of the past 2 years met in an absorbing final which was thoroughly enjoyed by the enthusiastic & cheering audience. We had scintillating performances with the bat (with number of balls going over the fence), a hat trick & a 5 wicket haul and some exceptional catches that gave a good treat to the cricket lovers. The poster making competition for the team supporters added more liveliness to the surroundings. This year's carnival also saw an addition of games for the ladies and the spirited participation by them made the day more like a Family Carnival. Some interesting moments have been captured & uploaded in the Sabha website by our roving cameramen.

The Sabha thanks the participants, volunteers who helped put together the carnival and the audience, without which the carnival would not have been filled with fun & merry-making. See you all in Cricket Family Carnival 2011 !!! The Cricket Carnival and Family Carnival snapshots are available in the photos tab.

You can check on the photos tab for a collection of Carnival Photos.
